· Hurricane Preparedness Seminar
On Monday evening, 200+ residents of Georgetown County came to Pawleys Island Community Church to hear regional panelists talk about Hurricane Preparedness. The seminar, presented by The Sun News and WNCA, consisted of 5 people: Mike Russell, South Carolina Emergency Management; Tom Matheson, NOAA; Nanci Conley, Red Cross; Sam Hodge, Georgetown County Emergency Management; and moderator Ed Piotrowski, WPDE News Channel 15. The most profound statement of the night, "I am scared," was made by Tom Matheson. All panelists agreed that it's going to be a busy hurricane season. The Chamber gave out free CD's with helpful information. If you were unable to attend Monday night's event, please stop by the Visitor's Center, The Georgetown County Library, or the Waccamaw Neck Library to pick up one of these CD's. And please, do your best to be prepared! The chamber would also like to thank our sponsors of the evening: The Sun News, WNCA, Costco, Take A Peek, Pawleys Island Community Church, The Coastal Observer, A&I, and The Times. A special thanks to all of our volunteers who gave their time to make this seminar a success. This event would not have been possible with out you!

· Please Take Chamber Member Survey!
Last week, I emailed and asked you to spend a few minutes helping with a survey. As a reminder, this is your opportunity to have real impact on what your chamber sets as priorities for the next year. It will help us better serve your needs. This survey is of particular value because it will show how we are doing compared to other chambers across North America. Please click on this link and select "Go" to begin
http://survey.9gs.org? code=5zck7f
If the link isn't active, simply copy & paste it into your browser.
So far, we've only had 2 members take the survey, so we are far from getting there! If you have already taken the survey, thanks. The survey responses are completely anonymous so we don't know who has and has not taken it. If you haven't taken it, please take 3-5 minutes and help us improve. If you have questions please give us a call at the chamber or simply reply to this email.
Thank You!

• Volunteers Needed
It’s our business to help your business do business.
But we need your help. Your Chamber is hard at work organizing a number of exciting events in 2007, and we are currently seeking volunteers for several fun and active committees. In the short term, we need committee members for the 2007 Tabletop Expo scheduled for March 8. We also need volunteers for a Fun Run & Family Fitness event that’s being planned for May 12 – during the Treasures of the Tidelands Festival.
It is essential for us to recruit upbeat, motivated helpers who are willing to devote their time, talent and energy to make these events successful. It is our goal to make serving on these committees enjoyable and rewarding. If you appreciate the value of networking, enjoy people, or have an interest in fitness, one of these opportunities is right for you.
The only cost to volunteer is your time. The pay-off includes stronger business relationships, new friends and lots of fun working with others to make great things happen for our Chamber. The old proverb “you get out of it what you put into it” is absolutely true. Get involved. You’ll be glad you did.
If you and/or any of your employees or colleagues fit the bill, please be in touch with Mary Lussier at the Chamber, 546.8436 or by email at mlussier@georgetownchamber.com.
